When we first wrote God Is in the Small Stuff more than ten years ago, we had no idea that such an unassuming book would gain such worldwide attention. That original book and several other derivative titles have collectively sold more than 1 million copies. The original book has been translated into six languages. To this day we get emails and letters from readers around the world who have found comfort and encouragement in the simple yet profound idea that God delights in the details of our lives. While we can't exactly take credit for the book's appeal (okay, so we did write it, but honestly, we aren't smart enough to write a book that's touched so many hearts), we think we know why people seem to relate to it. The concept of God being in the small stuff of our lives resonates with just about all of us, especially when we look back and see the amazing ways God has worked, sometimes in spite of our best efforts to thwart his plans. We may not always feel that God is involved in our lives at such a micro level, but that's because our thoughts are usually focused on the big things of life, and we tend to overlook the way God works in the little things. Yet it is in those little things that the biggest changes are made. Yeah, the big stuff is important, but things like births, deaths, marriages, and graduations are few and far between. On the other hand, the small stuff happens every day, several times a day. So, what's the lesson (if there is a lesson)? Probably to slow down and invite God into the details of our lives. It's easy and sometimes advisable to fly at 30,000 feet. It's how you get from one place to another quickly and efficiently. But there's no substitute for slowing down and sitting down in order to engage our hearts and minds with the Creator of the universe. From our experience, that's the best way to see how God works in the small stuff of life. |

I've always loved that concept - that God is in the small stuff in our life. It seems like almost everytime I'm worried about something that I think is too small to bother God about (but I do anyway), He comes through. This has shown me that God cares about the minute details, like you mentioned in your blog, because He cares about US. God is in the small stuff that is big stuff to us; if that makes sense. In other words, from God's perspective, He sees that in light of eternity, we shouldn't be stressing about certain things. A lot of it won't matter. But from our perspective, perhaps we only allow ourselves to consider what's in front of us and the circumstance at hand. And the small things we're going through matter. A lot. It's awesome that we serve a responsive God who cares about all our needs, both big and small.
Thank you for writing the book, "God is in the Small Stuff."
